Also I forgot to add that I live in the USA. Since video rolls at 29.97fps I would think it would be better if I shot at 25fps and not 24fps, or would it make that much of a difference?
Can i just crystal sync my camera at 25fps and then transfer to DV tape at 25fps, put it on premiere and then edit. Is it that simple?

Yes you can do that......
It does bring along a whole new set of issues because you live in the NTSC world. However, it is a viable option.
The problem is do you have a PAL deck for import into your computer?? Are you willing to get NTSC dubs of your final product to show your friends, family and festivals??
Good Luck
What do you mean by PAL deck? Dosen't adobe premiere let you switch from NTSC to PAL by the click of button.
I thought all I have to do is import onto Premiere by using PAL standards 25fps, and then speed it up to 29.97fps for NTSC video, but I could be wrong. I probably am wrong, it's cool i'll just use the 'ol 24fps. Thank you for your reply though.
Ok so you are shooting Super8 at 25fps. Then you are going to send it off to get a PAL Xfer to MiniDV.
Now, You are holding in your hand a PAL MiniDV tape.
Do you have a way to play a PAL tape? Because if you don't you have no way of getting it into your computer.
Good Luck
oooooooh I see. Yeah so I could get a PAL minidv tape back from the transfer house, and then with a PAL miniDV camera I could firewire it to my computer, change the speed of the film to 29.97fps NTSC and then firewire off of my computer onto a NTSC minidv camera. Would this do it? So I would have to have two minidv cameras one PAL and one NTSC. Thanks alot Nigel I'm getting it. I don't know if it is worth the bother but who knows?
No No No--As far as I know you can't convert from PAL to NTSC in the computer.
Good Luck
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not 100% sure but my old MAC + Adobe Premiere 4.0 converts 24/25 to 29+/30 - anything- all ways. [15-12-10-8-6-1- fps] There is a lot of interpolate/field options avail for teh conversions.Originally posted by Nigel:

I am pretty sure other NLE systms you have heard the name of before does the same. You will need the correct deck for recording back on to the final format though. In this case a NTSC recorder I assume?

I am not an editor and never intend to be one.
So it looks like Primere can do these kinds of conversions. It still doesn't help our friend that posed the question in the sense that he/she will still need to buy 2 decks.
Good Luck
So it will work if I use 2 decks one PAL and one NTSC. I can get each deck for about $200 so it's not that bad I just don't think I want to go through the trouble. I don't think it's worth it. Yeah and I'm pretty sure I'll double check to see if Premiere 6.5 converts 25fps to 29.97fps. I have it one my computer so I'll get back to yous guys in a bit.
